UK emergency travel document in Vietnam

• You are a British national outside the UK and need to travel within 6 weeks.
• Your UK passport is lost, stolen, damaged, full, recently expired, or with HM Passport Office or a foreign embassy.
• You cannot renew or replace your passport from abroad before you travel.
• You have had a valid UK passport issued on or after 1 January 2006. If not, apply for a passport, unless you have an urgent, unplanned reason in exceptional circumstances.

First check on GOV.UK that an emergency travel document is accepted in every country you leave, enter or pass through. Apply online with a digital passport photo not used before, a phone number, an email address and a card for the fee — a relative or friend can pay for you. Children under 16 attend an appointment with both parents or guardians, or bring a signed consent letter from the one who cannot attend.

• Your old passport is usually cancelled automatically when you pay.
• It can take several weeks if your passport has expired, the applicant is under 16, or more documents or an appointment are needed.
• Your travel plans may be printed on the document. If they change, you reapply and pay again.
• If your destination is the UK, border control keeps the document when you arrive.
