Who handles your application
The British Embassy in Hanoi and the Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City are not part of the passport application process and cannot advise on it. Questions about your application go to the HMPO Passport Adviceline.
VFS Global is HMPO’s official partner in Vietnam. At your appointment it checks the form and documents, certifies copies (originals are handed back the same day), sends your application to the UK by courier, and returns your new passport and any documents. Documents not in English need a translation.

There is no separate fee for a replacement passport. You cannot get a refund if you cancel or are not entitled to a passport.

Passport appointments run on a different schedule from visa appointments. On average, overseas applications take longer than applications made in the UK. Do not book travel until you have your new passport — it will have a new number.
Your Vietnamese visa and your new passport
- To enter Vietnam your passport needs at least 6 months' validity from arrival, 2 blank pages and no damage.
- Vietnamese immigration may ask for confirmation of your passport details to transfer your visa. The Embassy cannot issue this, but can certify copies of your old and new passports (£25 each).
- If your old passport was lost, stolen or damaged, your new passport needs an exit visa stamp from Vietnamese immigration before you leave (GOV.UK: 3 to 7 days).
